Nested along the Tampa Bay area, Weedon Island is a place where hikers are advised that they may come in touch with wildlife. In the case of this snapping turtle, the words "in touch" turned out to be a grave understatement. Walking along an elevated boardwalk minding my own business, this giant turtle leaped out of the swamp and charged me as I tried running away. With blazing speed, the vicious amphibian soon caught up with me and... Okay, that really didn't happen. It just laid there and let me shoot a great close up shot. I love turtles and this guy was a great subject. Not that he had a choice, I mean where's he gonna go?
